The Power Of Knowing Your Why

Feats that are seemingly impossible tend to become a whole lot easier when you know your ‘why’ — what is going to get you up every day to complete the task that you said you would day in, day out? 

I don’t like the term ‘motivation’ because motivation is fickle. Some mornings you wake up ‘motivated’ and feel as though you can conquer the world and bat all of the curveballs out of the playing field, and the next day you can wake up with the weight of the world on your chest and a task as menial as brushing your teeth is something that seems near impossible. 

My why, although cliché, is simple: 

• My family and my friends. They are the  people who I love more than I can articulate, they are the ones who fearlessly stood beside me and picked me up when I was having more ‘brushing my teeth feels like trekking to Everest’ days than ‘I’ve got this — I’m okay, I’m strong’ days. 
• The folks who are hesitant to reach out and ask for help. Whether it be for fear of being judged, pride or the stigma associated with doing so. 

Mental health matters and now, more than ever, it is crucial that if we have the capacity within ourselves, we must listen to, love and support those who need it, and if we need to be heard, loved and supported, ask for help in any way that you know how to. Whisper, scream, write, call, jump up and down, be honest. 

Remember, you are loved. You are worthy. And this world is better place for having you in it.
